DT's UGC ViperRcBros Berg
The parts list is as follows:
UGC Viper Chassis
RcBros 7075 lockers
RcBros zero ackerman knuckles
Super 300’s
CKRC straight axles - can’t find Axle Masters anywhere and the trade included 2 sets of CKRC
300m gears where applicable
Ti upper links
CI low clearance front links (for now)
t1e high clearance rear links (for now)
7950TH
FXR x2
CI 4s cap bridged between the 2 fxr's
CC bec
4pks
For now I will be using the axle housings that came in the trade. Soon I will be running RcBros rear gear case and tubes and eventually RcBros front gear case and tubes
And it begins!
I got the knuckle weights trimmed to fit the rcbros knuckles. The body is 2.4oz My screws are only long enough to put .800 worth of rings on, that gives me 7.3oz per side with room for another .100 ring if I need it. That is with Wheelworks M887 v2's and wide offset hubs, putting the track width at 11"
with .600 on
.800!
Room to spare! The ID is tight enough on these one off rings I could probably put some grease in there and have the weights act as a bushing

Is the front axle un-clocked?

Correct, not clocked. What length are your lower links you are using up front? not the eye to eye, but the bare rod between the rod ends, plus the little nuts you have on them?jordi555 wrote:Is the front axle un-clocked?
My CI links create clearance issues, I need to get some lunsford links and would like to order while at work, but no ability to take measurements....

I'll measure them when I get home and let you know..
It's 1.45pm here right now, I should be home by 6pm, not sure how far ahead we are in the UK, will that give you enough time to order today?
I hate the M4 nuts, I am going to make up some new Ti ones once I pick up my new tubes, I havent got much left and didnt want to waste it if I'm changing..

Actual rod length only is 96mm

Ti is expensive, I am broke, can only buy once
Re: DT's UGC Viper\RcBros Berg
Doh, good job you asked me to check!
Just realised I was running a cut down revo ends at one end with the m4 nut spacer and a full size revo at the other
Hope I havent confused you?
Eye to eye needs to be 128mm for an unclocked axle
I'm going to replace the 4 rod ends on this link and remove the m4 nut

Re: DT's UGC Viper\RcBros Berg
do you have calipers handy? what is the length on a revo rod end from the inside edge to the eye center?
trying to do length math with no calipers or links in front of me

Re: DT's UGC Viper\RcBros Berg
It's 15.5mm by my calculations
hang on a minute, I think I've picked up a cut rod end, I'll go get a new one!

Thought so, it's more like 16.8mm from the end to the eye centre.....sorry about that

ok sounds like I need a 115mm lunsford link then! 20mm is lost to threads, so 95mm + 16.8mm x2 = 128.6mm. or I could go with a 110, 90 + 16.8 x2 = 123.6mm and make up the difference on the rear.
what to do.... pocket book does not allow experimentation. hmmmm I may have to ponder this longer than hoped.
Re: DT's UGC Viper\RcBros Berg
Make some!
I drilled and tapped mine, bit of a pig of a job, but then you can experiment at least a little

I lack the tools to work with Ti
Re: DT's UGC Viper\RcBros Berg
That's what I thought too....till I tried it.
Used a regular hacksaw, hss drill bit and tap
I reckon about 1 hour per link should do it.
Admit it takes a good while longer to work with than say 6061, but I thought it was worth it.
I picked up 2m x rod about 18months ago, got about a metre left, cost me approx £50.00
Even bending it isnt too bad if youre determined enough
Not sure what Lunsford charge though ?

Re: DT's UGC Viper\RcBros Berg
The lunsford links are about $9US each.
I'd need a drill press I don't own either to work it. A cheap battery operated hand drill not gonna cut it.
When I move to a larger place I will get a drill press, bench grinder, etc.

Re: DT's UGC Viper\RcBros Berg
I picked up a digital caliper on the way home today. I need 110mm (90mm unthreaded)
A little cut,
A little grind, poor servo...
My CO proto motor protector\battery mount is on! I need to make a new tray for it.
I will clean up all the cuts later, gotta get it running!

First mock up, waiting for Ti uppers and front lowers to come, it will probably get driven like this this weekend.
Re: DT's UGC Viper\RcBros Berg
Richard, are you still running these in yours?

No, I found that they act weird when trying to grab ledges which we do a lot of down here.
Re: DT's UGC Viper\RcBros Berg
Reasons to love my new job... Better pay, stock options, 5 minute commute, great team members, and full manufacturing facility
The plant manager took care of a little project I have had back burnered for a while now
I'm going to reassemble the axle tonight and rather than drill and tap for the clocking he is going to weld the c's in place for me tomorrow once I have the position marked.
I love my new job!!!
